Rescue Efforts Enter Seventh Day to Find 27 Missing Students After Java School Collapse
JAKARTA: The death toll from a devastating school collapse on Indonesia’s Java island has tragically risen to 37 today, as rescue teams recovered more victims buried under the rubble.
The national search and rescue agency confirmed that efforts have continued for a seventh day following the multi-storey building’s sudden collapse last Monday.
The majority of the victims are students—mostly teenage boys aged 13 to 19—who were gathered for afternoon prayers when the incident occurred. Authorities state that search teams are still looking for the bodies of 27 students who remain officially missing and are believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
