Srinagar: The festival of Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour across the Kashmir Valley on Thursday, symbolizing the timeless victory of good over evil.
The main event was held at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, where a towering effigy of Ravana was ceremoniously set ablaze, drawing large crowds from various communities.
Witnesses said that the celebration saw participation from people of all walks of life, including Kashmiri Pandits, who continue to uphold their cultural traditions despite being a minority in the region.
One of the participants, Rahul Matoo, a Kashmiri Pandit, expressed, “Dussehra in Kashmir holds a special place in our hearts. It brings us together as a community and strengthens the bond we share with our heritage.”
Another local resident from Kheer Bhawani said, “Celebrating Dussehra in the valley reminds us of our roots and shared traditions. It’s not just a festival; it’s a moment of unity and hope for all of us.”
The festival also saw a vibrant display of fireworks that lit up the Srinagar sky, marking the end of the celebrations on a joyous note.
The administration had made elaborate arrangements for the event, including Robust security measures to ensure a smooth and safe celebration.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor in a post on X, wrote: Greetings to all on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami.
The message added to the festive cheer and was widely shared on social media platforms
In his message on the eve of the festival, the Chief Minister said, “Dussehra inspires us to uphold the values of truth, righteousness, and justice under all circumstances. Its message of moral courage and harmony is more relevant today than ever.”
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also extended his greetings, wishing the people of Jammu and Kashmir “joy, peace, and a renewed spirit” on the auspicious occasion
