Jammu : Mithun Manhas, a former cricketer, is set to become the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on September 28, following the dismissal of a petition that challenged his election by the J&K and Ladakh High Court.
According to a statement issued by the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Associatin (JKCA) the ruling clears the path for his historic appointment, which is seen as a significant milestone for cricket in the region. Manhas is recognized as a dynamic sports personality with a distinguished career, marked by numerous achievements. His leadership has notably advanced the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), enhancing the region’s cricketing reputation and providing opportunities for local talent to excel on both national and international platforms. The petition against Manhas was deemed frivolous by the court, which questioned the legitimacy of the petitioner, Sudershan Mehta, and the court’s jurisdiction over the matter. Mehta, a retired police officer with a controversial past, has been accused of engaging in morally corrupt practices during his time with the JKCA and is currently involved in a defamation case. His attempts to challenge Manhas’s election are viewed as motivated by envy and a desire to obstruct the progress made by the JKCA. The court’s decision reinforces the support for Manhas and his contributions to cricket in Jammu and Kashmir. The JKCA has expressed its congratulations to Manhas on his appointment and wishes him success in his new role, emphasizing the unity of the people in celebrating this achievement despite the challenges posed by a few dissenters. Legal representation for the case was provided by senior advocates who successfully argued in favor of Manhas and the BCCI, ensuring that the petition against him was dismissed.
