Ramban| : Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Alyas Khan in presence of Senior Superintendent of Police, Arun Gupta on Friday inaugurated the Inter-Zonal District Level Athletics Meet for Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 boys here at District Police Lines (DPL),.
The event is being organized by the Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS) to promote sportsmanship, physical fitness and holistic development among young athletes.
The tournament features a variety of track and field events including sprints, long-distance races, long jump, high jump and shot put. Over 180 student athletes from all six zones of the district are participating in the competition, accompanied by Zonal Physical Education Officers, staff, field officials and dignitaries.
Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged the youth to acquire sporting skills, shun unhealthy habits and imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship. He directed the DYSSO to focus on improving sports conditions and providing adequate sports equipment to ensure the best facilities for athletes. He reaffirmed that the District Administration is committed to extending full support for the promotion of sports and the welfare of youth in the district.
In his address, the SSP underlined the importance of sports in fostering character, mental well-being and physical fitness. He said that meaningful engagement with youth can start from the playground and urged them to avoid unhealthy practices, promoting athletics as a pathway to personal excellence and holistic growth.
Earlier, DYSSO Jagdish Raj Sharma, briefed about the ongoing tournament and motivated the athletes to practice diligently, emphasizing perseverance, commitment and discipline as the keys to success in sports and life.
Dy SP DAR Ramban, Kuldeep Singh, along with various other officers, was also present at the inaugural event.
