Says “ Under PM Modi India’s Youth Now Job Providers, Not Seekers, India Ranks 3rd in Global Startup Ecosystem (2016-2024)”

“NEP to Catapult India into Top 10 Innovators by 2028, GST Reforms for Revenue Generation, Not Public Exploitation”

Gandhinagar (Gujrat), Srinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the pivotal role of youth and startup ecosystems in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a New India during the Startup Conclave 2025.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Startup Conclave 2025 here on Tuesday the Home Minister highlighted that prior to 2014; Indian youth faced significant barriers in innovation and entrepreneurship, with fewer than 500 startups existing at that time. The launch of the Startup India initiative in 2016 has since transformed India into the fastest-growing country for startups, with the number of startups soaring to 1.92 lakh and unicorns increasing from 4 to over 120, collectively valued at over $350 billion. Shah noted that India has become the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem and the third-largest digital ecosystem, significantly enhancing opportunities for youth creativity and innovation. He pointed out improvements in India’s Global Innovation Index ranking, moving from 91st in 2015 to 38th today, with aspirations to reach the top ten within three years. The New Education Policy has also been instrumental in fostering research on the Indian Knowledge System, enabling youth to conduct world-class research. The Union Home Minister acknowledged the substantial growth in various sectors, with 21,000 startups in IT and 17,000 in healthcare, among others.
The Home Minister als highlighted that 48% of startups are founded by women, and the ecosystem has created sustainable employment for 17.9 lakh people. Shah credited the Modi government for establishing a supportive environment for startups, including financial and policy support, and significant reforms in taxation, particularly through the implementation of GST, which has increased revenue while reducing tax burdens for many citizens. The Startup Conclave aims to explore ways to enhance India’s identity in the global startup arena, focusing on the themes of innovation, elevation, and acceleration. Discussions will connect emerging startups with investors, aligning with Modi’s vision of transforming ideas into market-ready solutions. The event also featured the launch of a compilation of the Indian Knowledge System, showcasing India’s rich heritage in various fields.
