‘Carries out searches at 8 locations, 7 detained for questioning’
Srinagar: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has initiated a significant operation targeting a terror-linked network that has been posing as social activists in the region. This action follows the registration of a case under FIR number 03/2023, which involves serious charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The CIK on Saturday conducted searches at multiple locations across Kashmir after securing warrants from the Court of Special Judge designated under the NIA Act. The investigation was prompted by credible intelligence indicating that certain individuals in Jammu and Kashmir were misusing platforms related to mass media, social media, human rights, and women empowerment to engage in activities harmful to the state’s sovereignty and security. These individuals are suspected of having connections with secessionist groups and banned terrorist organizations, and there are indications of their communication with Pakistan-based terror handlers via encrypted messaging applications. Their activities reportedly include spreading misinformation, radicalizing youth, and attempting to disrupt public order. During the operation, eight locations across various districts, including Srinagar, Baramulla, and Anantnag, were searched, resulting in the detention of seven suspects and the seizure of incriminating digital evidence relevant to the investigation. This crackdown has effectively disrupted a dangerous network operating under the guise of social activism while serving terrorist interests. The evidence collected is anticipated to uncover further details of the conspiracy, and additional arrests may follow as the investigation progresses. CIK has emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards individuals attempting to disguise terror-related activities as legitimate civil society efforts. The agency warns that such elements pose a significant threat to peace and act as enablers of cross-border terrorism. As the investigation continues, further revelations regarding the covert operations of these pseudo-activist networks are expected, highlighting the need to expose their anti-national agendas.
