Srinagar : To address the issue of unsafe food items in Budgam district, the local administration has formed special Flying Squads that include officials from various departments, including the Police.
The Budgam Police have set up checkpoints at major entry points to monitor the transportation of such items rigorously. In a recent operation at Humhama Chowk, a joint inspection led to the seizure of 100 kg of rotten fish from a seller, Mehdi Hasan Lashkar, who was transporting the goods from Srinagar International Airport to his shop. The seller was arrested, and an FIR has been filed against him under relevant legal provisions, including Sections 271, 272, and 275 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The Budgam Police have reiterated their commitment to public health and food safety, emphasizing that strict legal actions will be taken against individuals selling substandard or unhygienic food. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any such malpractices to the nearest police station.
