PM Plans aerial survey of landslide hit Katra, Chasoti; relief package for flood affected people

Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir to assess the flood situation and damage caused by recent natural disasters, including cloudbursts, rains, and landslides.
The exact date of Prime Minister’s visit will be announced soon, and it will include an aerial survey of affected areas, particularly the holy town of Katra and Chasoti village in Kishtwar District, where significant loss of life occurred. During his recent visit to Himachal Pradesh, PM Modi conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected regions and held a meeting in Kangra to evaluate relief and rehabilitation efforts. He announced a financial assistance package of Rs 1500 crore for Himachal Pradesh, which includes the advance release of funds from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. The Prime Minister emphasized a comprehensive approach to recovery, focusing on rebuilding homes, restoring infrastructure, and supporting the agricultural community. Additional measures include geotagging damaged properties for accurate assessments and timely aid distribution, as well as enabling schools to report damages for assistance under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. The government plans to construct water harvesting structures to improve groundwater management. PM Modi expressed condolences to families affected by the calamities, announcing an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the deceased’s next of kin and Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured. Orphaned children will receive support under the PM CARES for Children scheme. The Prime Minister acknowledged the efforts of various organizations in disaster response and assured that the Central Government will continue to work closely with the State Government to provide necessary assistance.
