Says “Evacuations Begin in Srinagar & South Kashmir, Adequate stock of essentials in place, relief centres, health, power, & telecom services fully functional”
Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg has issued a warning to citizens in Kashmir to remain vigilant during the night, emphasizing that the next 6–8 hours are critical.
Divisional Commission in a statement issued here on Wednesday urged people to adhere to the advisories from district administrations as preventive evacuations are underway in Srinagar and parts of South Kashmir. Garg reassured the public that essential supplies, including food and fuel, are adequately stocked, alleviating concerns about shortages. Health, power, and telecommunication services are reported to be functioning normally across the Valley. Preventive evacuations are being conducted in several districts, including Srinagar, Kulgam, Anantnag, and Pulwama, with field teams monitoring water levels and assisting citizens in relocating to safer areas. Although some water levels have receded, increases have been noted at specific locations, prompting close monitoring to safeguard lives and property. Over 300 relief shelters have been established, equipped with necessary supplies to support those in need. The restoration of Mughal Road is ongoing, and health systems remain operational. Emergency Operation Centres at both the UT and district levels are active, with a dedicated emergency number available for assistance. Garg highlighted the importance of extreme vigilance, urging citizens to cooperate with field teams and follow district advisories as the situation remains under control but requires careful attention.
