15 community centers and schools designated as temporary shelters with health teams on standby
Srinagar: The Srinagar district administration has established a network of 15 relief centres across the city as part of its emergency preparedness plan. These centres are strategically located in areas such as Ellahibagh Buchpora, Lalnagar Chanapora, and Khonmoh, among others, and are designed to provide safe shelters for families during emergencies.
The initiative aims to ensure a quick and coordinated response to potential disasters, particularly floods. Nodal officers from various departments, including Revenue, Rural Development, and Health, have been appointed to oversee the operations at these centres. Their responsibilities include coordinating relief efforts, maintaining communication with district control rooms, and ensuring the provision of essential services such as food and shelter. The Health Department has also deployed medical teams, including notable doctors, to ensure medical preparedness and support. Additionally, the administration has identified nine evacuation-prone areas where these relief centres will be crucial for rescue and rehabilitation operations. The collaboration of multiple departments, including SMC and PHE, is intended to facilitate smooth coordination during emergencies. This proactive measure reflects the administration’s commitment to minimizing risks and enhancing the city’s readiness for any eventualities.
