Gorakhpur: Indian Railways, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is preparing to honor the 350th Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, aiming to educate the younger generation about the Guru’s teachings and sacrifices.
A high-level meeting at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi, led by Ravneet Singh, Union Minister of State for Railways, focused on gathering suggestions from Sikh leaders for the commemorative events. This initiative represents a significant collaboration between Indian Railways and the Sikh community to celebrate the legacy of the ninth Sikh Guru, known for his commitment to religious freedom.
During the meeting, various proposals were discussed, including the display of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s Shlokas at railway stations and trains, the operation of special commemorative trains, and the installation of Punjabi signboards at key railway stations. Enhancements in cleanliness and hygiene on trains, provision of community meals (Langar), and improved facilities on pilgrimage trains were also emphasized. Notable suggestions included renaming Delhi Railway Station to Guru Tegh Bahadur Railway Station, establishing daily train services to Takht Sri Patna Sahib, and increasing train connectivity to major Sikh pilgrimage sites. Chairman of the Railway Board, Satish Kumar, assured attendees that Indian Railways would carefully consider the suggestions to ensure the success of the commemorative events. The meeting included prominent Sikh leaders and senior railway officials, highlighting the collaborative effort to honor Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s legacy and improve services for Sikh pilgrims.
