New Delhi | Aug,23 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday underscored the growing integration of space technology into the fabric of India’s governance, emphasising its impact on sectors ranging from crop insurance and disaster management to fisheries and infrastructure planning.
Highlighting the increasing role of space technology in enhancing governance in India during the National Space Day event in New Delhi Prime Minister emphasized the positive impact of space innovations on various sectors, including crop insurance, disaster management, fisheries, and infrastructure planning. Modi pointed out that satellite-based assessments and geospatial mapping are improving services for citizens, showcasing India’s advancements in space technology.
The Prime Minister challenged Indian space startups to create five unicorns in the space sector within the next five years and called for increased participation from the private sector to achieve a goal of launching 50 rockets annually. Currently, India conducts five major launches each year, and Modi expressed a vision for one launch per week. V Narayanan, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), credited Modi’s leadership for the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, which marked a historic soft landing near the moon’s South Pole. He announced that the landing site has been named “Shiv Shakti Point” and declared August 23 as National Space Day. Narayanan also revealed plans for the Chandrayaan-4 mission and a Venus Orbiter Mission, with aspirations to establish the Bharatiya Space Station by 2035 and land on the moon by 2040, positioning India’s space program among the world’s leading initiatives.
