8 gamblers arrested in Tral, Stake money seized: Police

Srinagar |: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested eight gamblers in Tral in Awantipora and seized stake money from their possession.

Police in a statement issued here on Wednesday said that while acting on specific inputs a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) and supervised by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajesh Kumar during a raid on specific spots arrested eight individuals involved in gambling. The arrested individuals hailing from various locations, including Bandipora and Srinagar, according to the police statement, were identified as Mohd Abdullah Malla S/o Ab Khaliq Malla R/o Shilvat Sonawari, Bandipora,  Mohd Ashraf Mir S/o Gh Mohd Mir R/o Dadsara, Tral,  Tanveer Ahmad Wani S/o Mohd Yaqoob Wani R/o Haal Mughalpora, Shopian, Aashiq Hussain Sofi S/o Gh Mohd Sofi R/o Saidakadal, Srinagar, Aasif Bashir Mir S/o Bashir Ahmad Mir R/o Hawal Jogiwan, Srinagar, Arshid Ahmad Shah S/o Gh Mohi-ud-Din Shah R/o Nowhatta, Srinagar, Mohd Rafiq Rather S/o Gh Ahmad Rather R/o Achambal Panthachowk and Ajaz Ahmad Shah S/o Ab Hamid Shah R/o Tashwan, Zainakadal Srinagar

Stating that a whooping amounts of Rs. 1,67,000 stake money along with playing cards were also seized during the raids Police in its statement further said that the suspects have been taken into custody at the local police station, and a case has been registered under FIR No. 108/2025, with further investigations underway. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its commitment to curbcriminal activities and appealed people to report suspicious activities to local police units.
