Srinagar: The annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom Sahib (RA) was celebrated with great devotion in Srinagar, attracting thousands of devotees to the historic shrine on Hari Parbat.
The annual Urs featured a night filled with the recitation of the Holy Quran, Naats, and special prayers, creating an atmosphere of spiritual fervor enhanced by floodlights and the collective chanting of “Ameen.” Devotees of all ages, including men, women, and children, gathered for the “Shab Khawani” the night before the main Urs day, which saw an even larger turnout. Participants engaged in prayers and spiritual discourses, viewing the occasion as a profound opportunity for divine connection. Many expressed feelings of peace and blessings, highlighting the personal significance of the event. The Urs served as a reminder of Kashmir’s rich spiritual traditions, with attendees feeling a deep sense of love and devotion that united them in their reverence for the saint, known as ‘Sultan-ul-Arifeen.’ Authorities ensured the smooth conduct of the event through careful arrangements for security and volunteer support, while local vendors contributed to the festive atmosphere with stalls around the shrine. As the day unfolded, waves of devotees continued to arrive, paying homage to the saint and reaffirming the spiritual unity of Kashmir, thereby preserving the region’s centuries-old Sufi heritage.
