Valley shuts against civilian killings

Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has called for a shutdown Wednesday against the killings of civilians in operations launched by the forces.
Authorities on Wednesday imposed restrictions in parts of Downtown Srinagar to prevent protests against the killings of civilians in firing by government forces.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has called for a shutdown Wednesday against the killings of civilians in operations launched by the forces.
While Geelani continues to remain in house detention, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was put under house arrest yesterday evening.
“Placed under #HouseArrest again, while the inhuman brutal killings of #Kashmiris including our young women continue and the collaborators who preside over them sing paeans of their masters”, Mirwaiz tweeted.
An official spokesman said complete restrictions were imposed in the territorial jurisdiction of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal police stations. “Partial restrictions have also been imposed in Maisuma and Kralkhud,” he said.
Coils of barbed wire have been placed at traffic crossings in the areas under restrictions. Heavy contingents of police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed. Train service between north Kashmir’s Baramulla town and Jammu’s Banihal town has been suspended.
