Srinagar |: Dr. Farooq Abdullah the President Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Friday visited Dalgate area in Srinagar to engage with local traders and artisans.
Talking to traders and artisans Dr Abdullah underscored the significance of promoting and preserving the authenticity of Kashmiri handicrafts, urging traders to offer genuine, locally-made products to tourists. Dr. Abdullah highlighted that Kashmiri handicrafts represent the region’s identity and heritage, advocating for the sale of authentic items that narrate the story of Kashmir. He called on the government to implement concrete measures to bolster the local handicrafts sector, emphasizing the need for initiatives that facilitate the reach of genuine Kashmiri products in both domestic and international markets. Dr. Abdullah demanded establishment of certification systems and improved marketing channels to protect artisans and promote authentic craftsmanship. The local trading community welcomed his interaction, expressing appreciation for the support provided by the Omar Abdullah-led government towards Kashmir’s traditional industries and the protection of local artisans’ interests.
