Srinagar : Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo visited the Vicharnag Temple in Nowshera, Srinagar, to assess ongoing restoration efforts aimed at preserving the site’s historical and cultural significance.
Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo and Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb, the Chief Secretary initiated the renovation works, emphasizing the importance of adhering to project timelines and quality standards. The renovation project, which is part of a government initiative to conserve cultural heritage, is expected to restore the temple’s historical glory and enhance its aesthetic and social values. The Chief Secretary highlighted the temple’s significance in reflecting Kashmir’s diverse cultural society and expressed hope that the restoration would benefit the community, particularly the Pandit community, who participated in the event. The project, executed by the R&B Srinagar at a cost of Rs 4.58 crore, includes comprehensive restoration efforts such as the conservation of the main temple structure, earth filling to restore original topography, and the construction of an entry gate and toilet block. Additionally, traditional materials like lime mortar and Budloo/Fir wood will be used to maintain the temple’s original aesthetics. The project is scheduled for completion by July 2026, with various departments involved in the execution and oversight of the works.
