Srinagar/Dec,20: Restrictions in several restive parts of Srinagar city imposed by law enforcement authorities and shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) hit normal life accross Kashmir on Wednesday.
All shops and other business establishments are closed in City Centre Lal Chowk while a skeletal movement of public transport was reported elsewhere in Kashmir valley .
Reports of shutdown were also received from other district headquarters of the Valley.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has called for a shutdown today against the killings of civilians in operations launched by the forces.
An official spokesman said complete restrictions were imposed in the territorial jurisdiction of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal police stations.
“Partial restrictions have also been imposed in Maisuma and Kralkhud,” he said.
Coils of barbed wire have been placed at traffic crossings in the areas under restrictions.
Heavy contingents of police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed.
Train service between north Kashmir’s Baramulla town and Jammu’s Banihal town has been suspended.
