Over 2.47 lakh pilgrims pay obeisance in 2 weeks

Srinagar: About 13,000 pilgrims on Wednesday visited the Amarnath cave shrine, despite challenging weather conditions. The demographic breakdown of the visitors included 8,877 males, 3,798 females, 145 children, 70 sadhus, and 8 sadhvis, along with 314 security personnel who also participated in the darshan.
Official figures reveal that since the commencement of the Yatra a total of 247,213 pilgrims have completed their visit, with the event proceeding smoothly and a steady influx of devotees from across the country. A new group of 6,064 pilgrims departed from the Yatri Niwas in Jammu, escorted by security forces in a convoy of 234 vehicles. Among them, 3,593 took the Pahalgam route while 2,471 opted for the Baltal route. The pilgrimage has maintained a peaceful atmosphere, despite intermittent rain along the paths. The Indian Army has demonstrated its commitment to the safety of the pilgrims by conducting a medical evacuation for a 38-year-old pilgrim who fell ill during the descent. The Army’s Medical Evacuation Team promptly provided care, ensuring the pilgrim was stabilized and able to continue his journey. This incident highlights the Army’s proactive approach to ensuring the health and safety of all participants, with medical teams on standby throughout the Yatra route. The annual Amarnath Yatra commenced on July 3 and is set to conclude on August 9 this year.
