SKUAST-K, KVK Srinagar kick-start 3-day Skill Development Training

Srinagar | :  KVK Srinagar organised three days ESDP on “Scientific Management of Broiler and Backyard Poultry Farming at its campus, here.

The programme aimed to equip rural youth with the necessary skills for sustainable poultry farming.

The opening session began with a presentation on the overall scenario of poultry farming in J&K and futuristic strategies to make the sector a commercially viable and employment generating enterprise.

Head KVK, Dr.S.A.Simnani urged the trainees to take up poultry farming as it is self-sustaining enterprises requiring minimal investment.

During the interactive sessions with the trainees, Dr.Simnani stressed on integrating Poultry with other agricultural practices for optimising feed efficiency and waste management practices. He emphasised the reduced use of antibiotics through adoption of biosecurity measures.

Dr.Ishtiyak A Mir, Scientist (Animal Science), delivered a comprehensive presentation on scientific management, covering breed selection, nutrition, health management, and bio-security measures. He also provided hands-on training on feed preparation methodology as well as management of poultry manure at Kendra’s Poultry /Duckery demonstration unit.

The training was attended by 24 rural youth and farmers, who gained valuable insights and hands-on experience in poultry farming practices.

Food Technologist, Dr.Aasima Rafiq deliberated on low cost processing techniques of poultry meat.
