Srinagar | : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police team from Police Station Bijbehara successfully apprehended a suspect Bashir Ahmad Dar, at a checkpoint in Gadhanjipora. Stating that during a personal search, officers recovered approximately 12 grams of a brown sugar-like substance, which was divided into 73 small polythene-wrapped packets from the possession of the said accused Police in its Statement further said that Dar was arrested, and a case under FIR No. 139/2025 was registered under relevant legal sections, besides which investigation is underway.
Police in its statement further said that in a separate operation at a checkpoint in Katritang Bijbehara, another suspect, Showkat Ahmad Kumar, was intercepted and during search approximately 11.60 kilograms of Poppy Straw were recovered from the possession of the said accused who was also arrested, and a case under FIR No. 140/2025 was registered besides initiating a formal investigation. In the concluding of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its commitment to combat drug-related issues and sought cooperation of the people in reporting any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking or abuse.
