Srinagar | : Police on Saturday said that since its inception, the Cyber Police Station Sopore has addressed 279 complaints related to various cyber frauds, predominantly focusing on online financial scams like app-based investment frauds, phishing, SIM cloning, and impersonation.
According to a Police Statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar the total financial loss reported from these incidents amounts to ₹1.52 crore, with ₹52.25 lakh successfully recovered and returned to victims. Additionally, ₹23.81 lakh has been lien-marked in the accounts of the fraudsters, and legal actions are in progress to ensure restitution. The Cyber Police Station Sopore is fully operational, not only investigating and resolving cases but also conducting awareness programs in educational institutions and public areas throughout the Sopore Police District. Authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance, particularly among senior citizens and digitally active individuals, urging the public to remain cautious while engaging with online platforms. Citizens are encouraged to promptly report any instances of cyber fraud or suspicious activities. Police also reiterated its commitment to safeguard people in the cyber realm through swift action, legal measures, and ongoing public outreach initiatives.
