Budgam | :  Under the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Budgam, through its extension outreach organized an Animal Clinical Camp Wednesday at Buzgoo (Block Nagam).

The event was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension, SKUAST-K, as the chief guest, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from local farmers and livestock owners.

A dedicated team of veterinarians from KVK Budgam, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Shuhama (SKUAST-K) and officials from Animal Husbandry Department provided on-spot veterinary care including health check-ups, treatment, deworming, vaccination, and mineral supplements. Over 70 livestock including cattle, sheep received treatment and preventive care free of cost.

Prof. (Dr.) Raihana, in her address, reiterated SKUAST-K’s commitment to empowering rural communities through timely veterinary interventions, disease prevention, and scientific livestock management.

She appreciated the efforts of KVK Budgam in delivering need-based animal health services to the doorsteps of farmers and emphasized the critical role of regular health check-ups and vaccination in preventing disease outbreaks and enhancing farm income.

Dr. Bilal Ahmad Lone, Prof.  & Head, KVK Budgam, elaborated on the objectives of the camp. He highlighted the importance of livestock health in ensuring sustainable rural livelihoods and encouraged farmers to adopt scientific animal husbandry practices.

As part of the World Zoonosis Day observance, special awareness sessions were conducted by veterinary experts on the transmission and prevention of zoonotic diseases such as brucellosis and rabies. Farmers were sensitized about disease risks, nutritional management, and general hygiene practices to safeguard both animal and human health.

Farmers expressed their gratitude for the initiative and requested that similar camps be organized in other underserved areas to ensure ongoing veterinary support and knowledge dissemination.
