Legal awareness Prog on victims of drug abuse, eradication of drug menace held at GDC Tangdhar

Kupwara: In line with the plan of action and calendar of activities for July 2025 issued by the District Legal Services Authority Kupwara, Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Tangdhar Karnah in collaboration with the District Police Kupwara and Sub District Hospital Tangdhar organized a comprehensive awareness programme on victims of drug abuse and eradication of drug menace, at the auditorium of Government Degree College (GDC) Tangdhar.
The programme was held under the guidance of Mansoor Ahmed Mir, Munsiff/Chairman, TLSC Tangdhar Karnah and witnessed the participation of various stakeholders including the staff of TLSC Tangdhar, members of Bar Association Tangdhar, Panel Lawyers, PLVs, faculty of GDC Tangdhar, health officials, police officers, and around 100 students of the college.
Key speakers included Adv. Qazi Mehboob Allahi, President Bar Association Tangdhar; Adv. Abdul Majeed Banday, Adv. Farooq Ahmed Qureshi and Adv. Waqar Ahmad, who highlighted critical legal and social issues pertaining to drug abuse. They elaborated on the legal framework available to combat drug menace and emphasized the role of NALSA in promoting a Drug-Free India.
Dr. Muktayar Ahmad, Medical Officer, SDH Tangdhar, representing the Health department, spoke on the psychological and physical impacts of drug addiction and emphasized the crucial role of civil society in supporting rehabilitation efforts and fostering a healthy lifestyle.
Among the dignitaries present were Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Principal of GDC Tangdhar, who underscored the importance of awareness, education, and collective societal action. He stressed the role of communities in socially boycotting drug peddlers as a deterrent strategy.
Police officers also addressed the gathering, reaffirming law enforcement’s commitment to fighting the drug menace and extending full cooperation in community-driven efforts.
The event concluded with a powerful message advocating a drug-free, healthy, and socially responsible society, reflecting the shared commitment of legal, medical, academic, and enforcement bodies towards this critical cause.
