Shopian/Dec,19: At least eight protesters were on Monday injured in clashes near the site of gunfight in Batmurran village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Earlier, clashes erupted near the site of gunfight where an operation is underway since last evening.Two militants were killed in the nocturnal gunfight while the search operation is on to look for third militant believed to be hiding in the debris of the house in Batmuran village. The house in which the militants were hiding was razed to ground after forces blasted it with IEDs.
Reports and eye witnesses said that youth hurled rocks at the forces to disrupt the operation. However forces lobbed teargas shells and fired pellets to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes. Eight persons were hit by pellets, they said, adding that three injured were shifted to District Hospital Pulwama for treatment.
A top police official said that the combing operation is underway at the gunfight site to look for the third body. Bodies of two militants have so far been recovered from the site.
The gunfight had started in Batmuran village of Shopian district on Monday evening when the troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police surrounded a house on a tip off. Police sources had said that about two to three militants were hiding in that house.
