Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in the regions of Shopian, Kupwara, and Handwara, seizing Poppy Straw, Charas, and liquor from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that In Shopian, a police team from Police Station Keller apprehended Nazeer Ahmad Lone at a checkpoint after he attempted to flee. “A search revealed 15.343 kilograms of semi-dry poppy straw, leading to his arrest and the registration of FIR No. 27/2025”, reads the Police statement.
Stating that in Kupwara also a police team from Police Station Kralpora intercepted a load carrier vehicle with two individuals, Firdous Ahmed Najar and Gh Nabi Ganie Police in its statement further said that a search uncovered Charas-like narcotics, resulting in their arrest and the filing of FIR No. 47/2025. Police in its statement further said that in Handwara also police at a checkpoint apprehended one Basharat Rasool Rather, who was found carrying approximately 270 grams of Charas wrapped in maize cover and 10 bottles of whiskey, adding there in that the said accused was arrested immediately and a case under FIR No. 32/2025 was registered also in this connection. In the concluding para of its above quoted state police emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating drug-related issues and reiterated its commitment to take strict action against offenders.
