The Chairman emphasized that the Jal Jeevan Mission, launched by the Prime Minister on 15th August 2019, is a flagship initiative aimed at providing piped water supply (Har Ghar Nal Se Jal) to every rural household in the country.
He highlighted that at the time of launch, only 16.71% of rural households had access to tap water. The mission was launched in Jammu and Kashmir the same year and initially targeted completion by 2025, later revised to 2028.

The Members also highlighted various alleged discrepancies in the work execution of Water Supply Schemes in different areas. They emphasized the need for timely submission of detailed reports addressing the issues raised during the meeting.
The Chairman underscored the importance of strong coordination between legislators and concerned departments to ensure timely and transparent execution of works for the larger benefit of the people.
A comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation was delivered by Shaleen Kabra, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Jal Shakti Department, outlining the physical and financial achievements under JJM in the UT.
The Additional Chief Secretary informed the Committee that as of May 31, 2025, a total of 3,596 works and 1,484 schemes have been completed under JJM. Out of 6,887 allotted works, 6,791 have been started upto May 31, 2025.
He reiterated that the mission is committed to provide Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to every rural household, ensuring a daily water supply of 55 litres per capita as per the standards set by BIS 10500.
The meeting was also attended by Mission Director JJM, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Chief Engineers of Jal Shakti (Kashmir and Jammu), Director Finance, Director Planning and other senior officers from the concerned departments.
