Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has seized nine tractors from various locations across Police District Handwara for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs, police teams from different police stations launched coordinated enforcement drives. Stating that during the operations, the vehicles were found transporting minerals without valid documentation, in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, 2016 Police in its statement further said that legal proceedings have been initiated against the violators as per the relevant provisions of law.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police reiterated its commitment to take action against violators by extracting minerals illegally to the detriment of people’s health, ecology and the revenue of the government, appealing therein people to come forward with any information regarding illegal mineral-related activities in their neighbourhood.
