In the face of the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, the safety of Indian citizens, especially the large number of students from Kashmir studying in Iran, became a serious concern. As tensions mounted and the situation in Iran grew increasingly volatile, a coordinated and compassionate evacuation effort was launched by the Government of India in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Tehran and the state government of Jammu & Kashmir.What unfolded over the next few days was a shining example of how swift, efficient, and humane response by national and state authorities can turn a moment of grave crisis into one of deep gratitude and relief.
A Joint Effort Of Central And State Authorities: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), under the able leadership of its officials and with the on-ground dedication of the Indian Embassy in Iran, played a crucial role in safely bringing back Indian nationals from affected regions. Recognizing the vulnerability of Indian students, many of whom belong to the Kashmir Valley, the evacuation process was given urgent priority. Kashmiri students, who were stranded in various parts of Iran including Mashhad and Tehran, were transported back home in a phased and organized manner. The Indian Embassy ensured constant communication with the students, provided them with shelter, food, medical care, and necessary documentation, while keeping their families in India reassured.The role of the Jammu & Kashmir government, especially under the leadership of former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah, deserves high praise. Their constant coordination with the central government, MEA, and Indian Embassy ensured that every Kashmiri student’s safety was prioritized. Their proactive outreach, consistent monitoring, and personal concern provided a much-needed sense of hope and assurance to anxious families across the Valley.

The facilities, timely communication, and concern for their well-being reflect the values of our nation’s governance and diplomacy.
A Moment Of National Pride: This evacuation operation reaffirms that the Indian government, both at the center and state levels, stands firmly with its citizens, regardless of where they are. It sends a powerful message that every Indian life matters, and that when a crisis strikes abroad, India does not abandon its people.
