AHD Jammu winds up 3 day farmers’ awareness campaign in Doda, Kishtwar distts

Jammu : The Extension and Publicity Wing of Animal Husbandry Department Jammu concluded its farmers’ awareness campaign launched in the districts of Doda and Kishtwar.
Conducted from 17th to 19th June- 2025, the campaign aimed at increasing the outreach of farm based development schemes in the remote areas of the Jammu division.
The campaign was led by Extension Officer Dr. Mohammad Sajjad along with his team of Publicity Wing, besides the officials from the twin districts. The tour kick-started with an awareness programme at Baggar in Doda district on 17th June followed by another at Bimalnar, block Drabshalla -Kishtwar on the next day.
On the last leg of the campaign, an awareness camp was organised especially for marginalised communities and pastoralists in the remote Mughal Maidan area of the district Kishtwar.
The entire campaign was organised in association with Animal Husbandry Departments of Doda and Kishtwar districts, and witnessed an overwhelming response of participants including veterinarians, para-veterinary staff, Pashu-Sakhis, farmers and livestock rearers who all came in good numbers.
Addressing the farmers, Dr Mohammad Sajjad highlighted the critical role of the livestock sector in employment generation and economic growth of associated farmers. He emphasized the need to adopt scientific livestock management practices in livestock rearing and to take maximum advantage of employment generation opportunities in dairy and poultry sector available under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme, Integrated Dairy Development Scheme, Integrated Poultry Development Programme, National Livestock Mission etc. which were explained in detail including mode of application, documents required etc. to the gathering.
The Extension Officer laid special emphasis on opting for latest technology in breed improvement of livestock such as use of sex sorted semen in cattle breeding which ensures birth of only female calves with upto 90 percent accuracy thus boosting productivity of the dairy sector in the region. Additionally, he stressed on disease prevention in livestock by urging livestock owners to ensure 100 percent livestock vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease under phase-6 of National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), which is currently ongoing in the entire country.
As part of the campaign, free of cost medicines including Dewormers and Supplements were also distributed among the farmers to enhance the livestock well-being and productivity ultimately boosting farmer’s incomes.
