NDMA, NDRF,CDRI bringing India closer to becoming a global leader in disaster management: HM Amit Shah

New Delhi|June,16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Disaster Response Forces (NDRF), and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) for their contributions to enhancing India’s disaster management capabilities. During a conference with state relief commissioners and disaster response forces, he highlighted that these institutions have significantly advanced India’s position as a potential global leader in disaster management over the past decade.
Home Minister Shah emphasized that the last ten years represent a transformative period for India, marked by improvements in capacity, speed, efficiency, and accuracy in disaster response. He noted that this era would be recognized in history for its achievements in disaster risk reduction and the integration of societal participation in disaster management efforts under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He called for increased collaboration among local bodies, the public, and various levels of government to achieve greater success in disaster management. Shah announced plans to develop district disaster management plans within 90 days and urged states to create action plans for addressing lightning and thunderstorms, to be shared with the central government within the same time-frame. Additionally, he proposed making interstate mock drills for natural disasters an annual event, stressing the necessity of state cooperation for effective execution. Shah also expressed the intention to connect the Start-up India initiative with the development of disaster relief technology, encouraging states to begin discussions on this concept.
