Jammu, June 11: A fire broke out on Tuesday inside the lobby of the old Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly complex, causing significant property damage but no injuries. The blaze engulfed a section where photographs of former Governors and Lieutenant Governors were displayed, all of which were destroyed in the incident.
Officials said that several chairs, sofas, and interior furnishings, reportedly worth lakhs of rupees, were also gutted in the fire. Firefighters arrived swiftly and managed to douse the flames after intense efforts.
Preliminary findings suggest a short circuit may have triggered the fire, though a formal investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
Officials have expressed concern over the loss of valuable historical memorabilia linked to Jammu and Kashmir’s political past.
