Srinagar: Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Monday voiced his grave concern over the fresh hailstorm that severely damaged cherry and apple orchards in various areas of south Kashmir’s Shopian district. He urged the Centre government’s support to compensate those who suffered huge losses due to the recent weather-related calamities in various areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
Bukhari in a post on his X handle said “Yet another hailstorm has damaged crops once again. In various areas of Shopian, the recent hailstorm has devastated cherry and apple orchards, causing immense losses to farmers. Such devastation affects not only livelihoods but also causes emotional trauma to the affected individuals and families.”
He further said, “The recurring damage to crops due to frequent weather-related calamities is a matter of grave concern. It requires immediate assistance from the central government to compensate those who have suffered losses in recent days and weeks.” Bukhari in his post on X also wrote “Also, long-term protection is imperative. We need a comprehensive crop insurance scheme here in Jammu and Kashmir”.
