Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that along with Revenue Department illegally cultivated Poppy was destroyed by it in a joint operation in Police District Awantipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that acting on credible inputs police along with officials of Revenue Department destroyed an illegal Poppy Straw cultivation spread over nearly about 1 kanal of land in Sharshali and Ladhoo owned by Nissar Ahmad Sheikh S/o Habibullah Sheikh R/o Sharshali, Fayaz Ahmad S/o Jalaludin Sheikh R/o Sharshalli and Manzoor Ahmad S/o Ab. Gaffar Wani R/o Ladhoo. Stating that the said accused had illegally cultivated Poppy crops in their respective fields and the illicit crop was destroyed on the spot, Police in its statement further said that a case under FIR No. 40/2025 and 41/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Khrew besides initiating further investigations.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reaffirmed its commitment to a drug-free society and appealed people to report any such illegal activities and extend cooperation to it and come forward with any information regarding any kind of anti-social activity in their neighbourhood.
