NIT Srinagar announces online classes from May-13 to June-06

Srinagar: Education Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Sakina Itoo Monday said that the schools and colleges falling under non-border areas shall reopen on Tuesday.
Itoo however further said that the government will take the call of reopening of those educational institutes of border districts on Tuesday.
In a statement issued here on Monday Itoo said, “All schools and colleges of Jammu and Kashmir falling outside the border districts shall reopen on Tuesday.”
“As far as the reopening of schools and colleges on border areas are concerned, we will take the call on Tuesday,” she said.
In the meantime, Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) said, “All schools will open tomorrow on 13th of May 2025, except for border districts Kupwara Baramulla and sub division Gurez of Bandipora.”
Divisional Commissioner Jammu on microblogging site X said, “After reviewing the situation, the Education Department has decided to reopen the non-border districts educational institutions & Border districts will continue closure of education institutions.”
Meanwhile, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has said that in view of the recent developments along the Line of Control (LoC), the varsity will conduct online classes for all undergraduate and postgraduate students from May-13 and continue till June-6 of 2025.
NIT Srinagar Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rehman said that the move follows a week of heightened tensions on the borders, during which many students were facilitated in returning to their homes for safety reasons.
“A number of faculty members also travelled to their respective hometowns amid the uncertainty. With the situation now stabilizing, the institute has opted for a phased and structured return to normal academic operations,” he said.
Prof. Rehman said that online classes will commence on Tuesday, May 13, and continue till June 6, college hostels will reopen on June 9, to facilitate students’ return to campus.
“On the directions of Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, offline (physical) classes will start from Wednesday, June 11, 2025,” he said.
Earlier, the authorities had ordered closure of all educational institutes in Jammu and Kashmir.
