Jammu Police Foil Two Bovine Smuggling Attempts, Rescue 36 Bovines in Sub-Division Nagrota

Jammu : Police in Jammu on Thursday said that continuing its intensified drive under Operation Kamdhenu successfully two separate bovine smuggling bids were foiled in Sub-Division Nagrota during which 36 bovines were rescued one vehicle was seized for being involved in the illegal transportation.
In a statement issued from the District Police Office Jammu Police said that in the first incident, a police team from Police Station Jhajjar Kotli, while conducting routine naka checking at Panjal, intercepted a Jonga 709 load carrier bearing registration number JK02DB-1712, adding therein that upon inspection, 11 bovines were found packed in cruel and inhumane conditions without valid documentation. Police in its statement further said that driver of the vehicle fled from the spot, abandoning both the vehicle and the animals, adding therein that the vehicle was seized, and the rescued bovines were handed over to the concerned authorities.
Stating that in the second operation, a police team from Police Post Manwal intercepted a group of unidentified persons attempting to smuggle 25 bovines on foot via Dhar Road, Udhampur en route to Srinagar Police in its statement further said that at a naka point established at Nadhal Manwal, the smugglers failed to produce mandatory permission from the District Magistrate as All 25 bovines were rescued even after the accused managed to escape taking advantage of the terrain.
Police in its statement furthermore said that FIR Nos. 54 and 55/2025 were registered under Sections 223 of BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at Police Station Jhajjar Kotli besides which investigations in both cases were initiated. In the concluding para of its above quoted Statement Jammu Police reiterated its firm commitment to combat bovine smuggling and animal cruelty.
