Jammu: Police in Jammu on Wednesday said that Jammu Police South Zone organized a Free Eye Screening Camp at Bawe Temple, Bahu Fort as part of its public outreach initiative. The health camp was held in collaboration with Samedna Society and the Department of Ophthalmology, GMC Jammu.
The medical camp commenced around 11:15 AM in the morning and concluded around to 2:00 PM in the afternoon. The camp was formally inaugurated by Ajay Kumar Sharma Superintendent of Police, South Jammu. SP South lauded the initiative, emphasizing the importance of accessible healthcare and the police’s extended role in community welfare. Also present at the event were Inspector Ashwani Kumar (SHO PS Bagh-e-Bahu), Sub Inspector Lekh Raj Sharma (IC PP Mandir Bahu Fort), and Keshav Chopra, Chairman of Samedna Society, symbolizing a strong collaboration between police, civil society, and medical institutions.
A team of four ophthalmologists and 3 support staff from GMC Jammu examined 103 individuals, including senior citizens, women, and economically weaker residents. Patients were screened for eye-related issues and provided with medical guidance. To honor their contributions, SP South Jammu presented mementos to the doctors and volunteers from Samedna Society.
