“Students and businesspersons from Jammu and Kashmir, many of whom moved to Maharashtra in pursuit of education and economic opportunity, find themselves particularly vulnerable in the aftermath of Pahalgam like tragic incidents. Far from home they seek more than just condolences; they seek assurance that their concerns are heard and their safety prioritized. “

In the wake of the devastating militant attack in Pahalgam, which shook the collective conscience of the nation, the people of Jammu and Kashmir—both at home and outside—are grappling with renewed fears and anxieties. In these challenging times, the need for compassionate leadership and visible reassurance becomes all the more crucial. It is in this backdrop that the visit of Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Choudhary, to Mumbai this week holds profound significance. The Deputy Chief Minister’s outreach to the J&K community currently residing in Maharashtra, particularly students and businesspersons, sends a clear message: the government stands firmly with its people, no matter where they are. By making himself available at the Sahyadri Guest House, located at BG Kher Road, Krishnaraj Society, Walkeshwar, Malabar Hill, Mumbai, Surinder Choudhary is not only offering a listening ear but also reinforcing the deep bonds that tie the community together during times of crisis. Students and businesspersons from Jammu and Kashmir, many of whom moved to Maharashtra in pursuit of education and economic opportunity, find themselves particularly vulnerable in the aftermath of Pahalgam like rtragic incidents. Far from home, often navigating unfamiliar environments, they seek more than just condolences; they seek assurance that their concerns are heard and their safety prioritized. The Deputy CM’s interaction with them is an important step toward addressing those very needs. Such gestures go beyond symbolism. They lay the groundwork for building trust, for nurturing a sense of security and belonging. When leaders step out of their offices and meet citizens where they are—when they engage not with prepared speeches, but with open hearts—their actions breathe life into the ideals of governance. J&K Dy CM’s decision to visit Mumbai in this difficult moment reflects a political will that is responsive and empathetic.

“The Mumbai meeting is an opportunity not only for reassurance but also for constructive dialogue. It offers a chance to understand the specific challenges faced by J&K residents outside the Union Territory—be it concerns related to security, discrimination, or general welfare—and to weave their feedback into responsive policy measures. In times like these, words alone are not enough. What matters is a sustained commitment to the safety, dignity, and aspirations of every Kashmiri, wherever they may reside. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary’s initiative is a reminder that in an era often marred by political distance, empathy and action must walk hand in hand. Today’s interaction at Sahyadri Guest House is more than a meeting—it is a message: that the government of Jammu and Kashmir stands united with its people, offering solidarity, support, and a shared determination to move forward, even in the face of terror.”

Moreover, this outreach also highlights the broader narrative emerging from Jammu and Kashmir: that of resilience in the face of adversity. The attack in Pahalgam was meant to instill fear and disrupt lives. But the collective response—of leaders reaching out, communities standing united, and people refusing to be cowed—demonstrates that the spirit of Kashmiriyat remains unbroken.
