DC Srinagar flags-off Walkathon, Shikarathon from Nehru Park to raise awareness on TB elimination

Says “Public engagement vital in disease prevention, health promotion & strengthening collective resolve to eliminate TB from Distt”

Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud Din Bhat flagged off Walkathon and Shikarathon from Nehru Park to SKICC here on Saturday as a part of the outreach activities of the 52nd Annual National Conference of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSMCON 2025).
Prominent Health functionaries and experts including Chairman of the National Task Force on Tuberculosis, Dr. Ashok Bharadwaj; Chairman of IAPSMCON 2025 and HoD Department of Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar, Dr. S. M. Salim Khan; District Tuberculosis Officer, Dr. Abdul Rouf and other dignitaries and delegates of the National Conference graced the occasion.
DC while interacting with the participants underscored that community participation and public engagement is vital in disease prevention, health promotion and strengthening collective resolve to eliminate TB from district.
Dr Bilal said that the outreach activities are aimed at strengthening the collective resolve to eliminate tuberculosis, in line with this year’s theme: “Yes! We Can End TB — Commit, Invest and Deliver.’
The Walkathon and Shikarathon were the joint initiatives of the Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, in collaboration with the District Tuberculosis Control Society Srinagar and Directorate of Health Services Kashmir.
During the events, participants wore specially designed T-shirts bearing the theme message, symbolizing solidarity and shared commitment in the fight against TB.
The event drew enthusiastic participation from medical professionals, students, health workers, and community members, highlighting the importance of public engagement in disease prevention and health promotion.
It is worth mentioning that, the 52nd IAPSM Annual Conference is a prestigious event that brings together public health experts from across the country to discuss pressing health issues, share research, and collaborate on strategies for advancing preventive medicine. ‎
