Jammu : Security forces on Wednesday tightened the cordon around Marta village of Ramnagar area in Udhampur district after engaging militants in an encounter for more than two hours.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amod Ashok Nagpure, said “This is a very inaccessible area due to the high mountains, a river below, and a dense forest. We have the information that two to three militants are hiding in the middle of this jungle.”
“This search operation is going on in this regard. Currently, all the soldiers of all the forces and teams are fit and fine. Even though this is a tough terrain, the morale of the forces is high, and we hope that we will be successful,” the SSP said.
He said that the security forces exchanged fire with the hiding militants for about two hours and the noose around them has been tightened.
Pertinently, police and security forces have been tracking militants moving from one area to another following three encounters since the operation started on March 24 in the Sanyial area of the Kathua district. Two militants and four policemen have been killed in the skirmishes during the past 17 days.
