Jammu: While highlighting the role of the radio as an important medium of media for information dissemination and awareness, the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh Saturday said owing to its reach, it is an important tool for bringing about social transformation.

The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a function organized in connection with the 11th anniversary celebrations of Big 92.7 FM held at Wave Mall here Saturday.

Dr Singh said besides being an important medium of media, the role of radio in creating the necessary awareness among people about the happenings is phenomenal.

He said since its inception, the radio has been an important tool in bringing socio-economic transformation by giving necessary information about various programs and schemes to the masses.

The Deputy CM said radio and FMs also provide the necessary platform to the young and budding artists to showcase their talent. He said several stalwarts of visual, creative and other related art fields have the medium as their alma mater.

Dr Singh said the FMs have also been responsible for reviving the connect of the people with radio, especially in the present age where different forms of media had already created a niche in the ever evolving scenario.

He said owing to its reach, more and more youth are getting connected to FM which also creates a creative urge in them to make a mark for themselves in the field of creative arts.

Later, the Deputy CM also distributed prizes among the winners of different contests organised by the Big 92.7 FM.
