Monthly Baithak Organised by Music Deptt, IMFA, University of Jammu

Jammu: The Music Department of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu, organized its monthly Baithak today at the Department of Dance, celebrating the rich cultural traditions of Indian classical arts.
The event was graced by esteemed Chief Guests Sh. Suresh Sharma retd.session judge, social worker and receiver Panchvaktar Mandir along with his better half prominent educationist Prof. Shruti Sharma, with Sh. Deepak Kumar, renowned theatrist, as the Special Guest. The occasion began with a solemn tribute to Padam shree. Manoj Kumar, a famous film actor popularly known as Bharat Kumar who passed away earlier today.
The Baithak began with a spiritual note as Vedic students from Panch Vaktar Mandir presented an enlightening Ved Path. It was a reminder of how Indian classical music finds its roots in the Vedas, especially the Samaveda, which is believed to have laid the foundation of musical notes and rhythm in Indian tradition. These sacred chants not only bring spiritual elevation but are also the earliest documented examples of structured sound and melody.
The event continued with vibrant performances from various departments, showcasing the diverse talents of the participants. In the vocal segment, Poojan Kumar captivated the audience with his melodious singing. Raghav presented a soulful performance on the tanpura, Danish Verma displayed his skill on the sitar, Hilal Farooq played the violin with finesse, and Jatin Kumar performed on the harmonium. The rhythm was beautifully handled by Peeyush Verma and Varun Kalotra on the tabla. A graceful dance performance was presented by Sonia and Manu, while Pragya Sharma took charge of the anchoring with poise and confidence. Additionally, a serene Ved Path was presented by Rudransh, Naksh, Samarth, Rishi, Akhil, Rahul, Vidushi, Vishal, Partiksh, and Krishna, adding a spiritual touch to the event. The welcome address was delivered by Raj Kumar Sharma, who emphasized the significance of sustaining these monthly cultural gatherings. The Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr. Priya Dutta, Head of the Music Department, who also shared how she, along with the dedicated faculty members and support of principal Prof Shobab Malik is working towards reviving and nurturing this age-old tradition of Baithak in an institutional setting.
Speaking on the occasion Suresh Sharma appreciated the efforts of the Music Department and encouraged the students to continue their artistic pursuits with dedication.
Earlier speaking on the occasion Deepak Kumar stressed on role of music department IMFA is propogating , promoting and spreading awesomeness about our culture heritage among the messes The monthly Baithak once again proved to be a harmonious blend of music, tradition, and cultural learning, keeping the spirit of Indian classical arts alive among the youth.
On this occasion certificates to the participants were also given.
