DC emphasizes rainwater harvesting, sustainable water management initiatives

Bandipora: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, who is also the Nodal Officer for Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA), on Wednesday convened a meeting at Mini Secretariat, to review the progress of Jal Shakti Abhiyan – Catch the Rain (JSA-CTR) 2025 in the district.
The meeting discussed in details the ongoing initiatives, challenges, and future strategies for effective water conservation and management.
Qadri emphasized the importance of rainwater harvesting in ensuring sustainable water resources.
Officers present on the occasion apprised the DDC regarding the status of water conservation projects, desilting of water bodies, and other initiatives.
The DDC stressed inter-departmental coordination to expedite the implementation of JSA-CTR projects.
He directed the concerned officers to construct rainwater harvesting structures in schools, Anganwadi centres, Panchayat buildings, and other government institutions to ensure effective water conservation.
The Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) was instructed to construct at least five rainwater harvesting structures in every Panchayat to maximize rainwater storage and groundwater recharge.
The DDC directed the concerned departments to conduct geo-tagging of all water bodies in the district besides emphasized regular cleaning and maintenance of these water bodies to ensure their sustainability.
He further passed directives to carry out GIS mapping of water bodies across the district to create a comprehensive database for better management and planning of water conservation initiatives.
DPO ICDS, Yaar Ali Khan; ACD, CPO, Project Coordinator WUCMA, Executive Engineer Jal Shakti/ I&FC, Chief Agriculture Officer, EO MC and other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.
