3-Day Creative Writing Workshop on Dogri Language concludes at JU

Jammu: A three-day workshop on Creative Writing, jointly organized by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, and the Post Graduate Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, concluded successfully today. The workshop, held from March 24 to 26, aimed to nurture aspiring writers, scholars, and students, enhancing their creative expression in the Dogri language.
The event commenced with an inaugural session featuring distinguished Dogri literary figures. Eminent poet and scholar Shri Prakash Premi delivered an insightful lecture on the nuances of Dogri poetry, emphasizing imagery, symbolism, and emotional depth in creative expression. He urged young writers to stay connected to their cultural roots while embracing evolving literary techniques. This was followed by an engaging session by Shri Darshan Darshi, who discussed poetic inspiration, stylistic elements, and the role of Dogri literature within India’s broader literary landscape. Both speakers highlighted the importance of writing in one’s mother tongue to preserve linguistic and cultural heritage.
On the second day, March 25, the focus shifted to specialized literary forms. Col. Raj Manawari conducted a session on Dogri Ghazal, shedding light on its structure, meter, and rhyming patterns, while also discussing its growing relevance in contemporary Dogri literature. In the following session, celebrated poet and songwriter Shri Thakur Khajoor Singh delivered a lecture on Dogri Geet, explaining the significance of melody, rhythm, and cultural motifs in crafting Dogri songs that resonate with audiences. The concluding day, March 26, was dedicated to literary theory and critical analysis. Retd. Prof. Archana Kesar presented an insightful lecture on Bhartiya Alochana De Sidhanth te Kavita vich Alankar da Prayog (Principles of Indian Criticism and the Use of Figures of Speech in Poetry). She elaborated on classical and modern theoretical frameworks, demonstrating how rhetorical devices (Alankars) enhance poetic and creative writing, making it more impactful and aesthetically appealin
Students, scholars, and faculty members across various disciplines, including the Departments of Law, MCA, English, History, and Buddhist Studies enthusiastically participated in the workshop.
Mohan Singh, Convener, Dogri Language, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, played a pivotal role in organizing the workshop. Expressing satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation, he emphasized the importance of nurturing literary talent in regional languages. He encouraged young writers to draw inspiration from Dogri’s rich cultural legacy and contribute to its evolution with innovation and commitment. The event concluded with an interactive valedictory session, where participants shared their experiences and showcased their creative works. Certificates were distributed to all attendees. In her concluding remarks, Prof. Sucheta Pathania, Head, Department of Dogri, congratulated the participants and extended her gratitude to Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, for their support. She encouraged students to continue exploring their creative potential and contribute meaningfully to the enrichment of Dogri language and literature.
