Srinagar : Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has voiced deep concern over the government’s takeover of the land that was being used as a playground in the Rawathpora area of Baghat Barzulla.
In a statement issued from party headquarters here Bukhari said that this was the only playground serving the youth from nearby areas, including Rawathpora, Barzulla, Baghat, Parray Pora, Khan Mohalla, Mandar Bagh, Majeed Bagh, Sanat Nagar, Natipora, Chanapora, and other neighboring localities, adding therein that the land was under the possession of a school in Rawathpora Baghat. Bukhari further said, “I am shocked to learn that the government has taken over the trust land in the Rawathpora area of Baghat Barzulla. This piece of land was being used as a playground for youth from various neighboring areas. At a time when young people are increasingly vulnerable to the dangers of drugs, violence, and other negative influences, the government has chosen to deprive them of essential infrastructure for healthy and constructive activities.”
He further said,” The residents say that since the past 47 years this school has been more than just an educational institution; it has served as a vital community space. The 40 kanals of land under its management have, for decades, been an essential recreational and sports ground for local residents, especially children and youth. After school hours, this land transforms into a safe and accessible playground, promoting physical activity, social interaction, and a healthy lifestyle.”
He went on to say, “Instead of investing in the development of this stadium, the authorities have completely taken it over to give it to police department and others. It is strange that the local MLA and others in the ruling party made no effort to prevent the takeover of this vital community space.” The Apni Party leader urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and ensure that this land is protected for the youth. He said “I urge the Chief Minister to personally intervene and safeguard this land for the youth. It is his duty to prioritize their well-being and interests over infrastructural development.” “By taking over the stadium land, the government is leaving the youth more vulnerable to drugs and other negative influences,” he added.
