Srinagar: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi Thursday visited Florist Nursery, Hot House and extension wing of Florist Development Scheme at Lalmandi Srinagar.
On the occasion, he took stock of all the developmental and other mandated activities carried out by the extension wing.
During the visit, the officers briefed the Director that the floriculture wing is carrying out cultivation of Rose Marry and Scented Geranium on commercial lines, besides cultivation of Lavender, Bulgaria Roses and other ornamental crops.
While expressing his views, Director Agriculture impressed upon the concerned officers to identify and explore the avenues for the promotion and development of different types of floral species, herbs and shrubs and their multiplication on commercial lines, so that this allied wing of Agriculture can also contribute to the employment generation for the unemployed youth of state.
He called upon the officers to work for the promotion of entrepreneurship in this allied wing so that more youth can be involved in this business. He further insisted upon the concerned officers to encourage the innovative ideas in the said field and make efforts to include different types of new floral species in the present spectrum.
Director Agriculture also highlighted the need for organising training programs for unemployed youth to incorporate expertise and make them skilful in different activities of floriculture.
