Awantipora: The Department of Mathematical Sciences, IUST, celebrated the International Day of Mathematics today, highlighting its significance in various fields. This year’s theme, Mathematics, Art, and Creativity, explored the subject’s interdisciplinary connections.
During the program, Dr. Peer Bilal Ahmad, Head of the Department, emphasized mathematics’ role in scientific advancements and everyday problem-solving. Prof. Fozia Qazi, Former Head, delivered a lecture on Mathematics and Art, illustrating how mathematical concepts like symmetry, proportions, and patterns influence artistic expression. She also demonstrated how mathematical concepts such as symmetry, proportions, and patterns influence various art forms in our day-to-day life.
A Mathematics Quiz Competition was held for university and Higher Secondary School students, with participants receiving certificates. Faculty, research scholars, and students attended the event, moderated by Dr. Bilal Ahmad Chat, Assistant Professor Mathematics.
