Jammu : Police in Jammu on Sunday said that under the direction of SSP Jammu, a focused operation code-named “Ploughing” was launched to crack down on illegal mining activities in the region.
In a statement issued from the District Police Office, Jammu Police said that the operation was led by SDPO South and SDPO East, and executed by the Sub-units of South Zone, which include SHOs and ICPPs, adding therein that as a result of the operation a significant number of vehicles involved in illegal mining activities were seized.
Stating that in the series of operations conducted across the South Zone police teams seized 1 JCB machine, 8 tractor-trollies, and 4 dumpers involved in unauthorized mining activities, Police in its statement further said that Police Post Belicharana intercepted two tractor-trollies while transporting illegally excavated material, adding therein that Police Post Greater Kailash intercepted 1 tractor-trolley, Police Post Chatta 1 tractor-trolley, Police Post Sainik Colony 1 tractor-trolley, andPolice Post Chatha 4 dumpers along with 1 tractor-trolley.
Police in its statement further said that Police Post Phallian Mandal successfully detained 2 tractor-trollies and 1 JCB machine engaged in illicit excavation. Stating that following the seizure, the District Mining Officer was informed for further legal proceedings, and some vehicles were detained under the MV Act, adding therein that Police teams have been directed to intensify patrols in vulnerable areas to prevent future violations.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its committment to protecting public resources and take stringent action against those involved in illegal mining. Police in its statement also appealed people to report any such activities to their nearest police station or control room.
