Computer Numerical Control workshop begins at KU’s IoT in Zakura Srinagar

Srinagar : To equip students with industry-relevant skills in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Technology (IoT), University of Kashmir (KU), Zakura Campus, inaugurated a two-week hands-on workshop titled ‘Mastering Innovative CNC Machining Practices.’
The workshop focuses on practical training in CNC programming, machine operations, and precision manufacturing techniques. It aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial applications, enhancing students’ technical competencies and preparing them for the evolving job market.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Dean Academic Affairs KU, Prof. Shariefudin Pirzada, emphasized the growing role of CNC technology in modern manufacturing and its significance for engineering students.
“This workshop provides students with the hands-on expertise needed to excel in advanced machining and automation, crucial for meeting industry demands,” he said.
Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, stressed on the importance of skill-based education and said, “Hands-on training is key to improving employability and practical exposure to CNC machining will give students a competitive edge in the manufacturing sector.”
Director, IoT Zakura KU, Prof. M. Tariq Banday, highlighted the institute’s commitment to offering high-quality technical education and industry-focused training to make sure students are well-equipped for emerging technological advancements. Coordinator, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IoT Zakura KU, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Najar, outlined the objectives of the workshop.
Over the course of two-weeks, industry experts from MSME Technology Development Centre, Jaipur, will conduct sessions on CNC milling, turning, G-code/M-code programming, tool path simulation, and real-time machining exercises. Students will actively participate in the hands-on training sessions and gain valuable knowledge related to advanced machining technologies and industry best practices.
