Srinagar : The Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department has announced the lowering of the weir at Chattabal in view of the ongoing and forecasted rainfall over the next week.
The decision is in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which mandates the lowering of the weir after February 15 to manage water levels in the Jhelum River.
Authorities have cautioned that the water level in the river may fluctuate due to the ongoing weather conditions. As a precautionary measure, houseboat owners residing in the Jhelum River are advised to take necessary precautions, as the lowering of the weir will initially cause a reduction in water levels.
The department has urged the public, especially those living along the riverbanks, to remain vigilant and take appropriate safety measures. Further updates will be shared as per the evolving situation.
